In these times of theatrical turmoil, let's not forget what's really important: that time Scott asked twitter to send him pizzas and then didn't know what to do with all of the pizzas.

I don't understand what this Tonys business with Sunday in the Park with George means though... if they're withdrawing from the running already does that mean we're not getting a full staging of it and they're giving up? I didn't pay $200 to see the City Center production again, even if I love the show...
    hogsmeades:
it's really bizarre, i wonder if there's drama going on behind the scenes they aren't telling us about?
    lunar-eclipses:
if there is, you know Scott is behind it. they've been treating that boy like he's the prince of Broadway and it's a shame for the show, things were already weird with that week hiatus in March (you know that has to be something going on with HIS schedule) and now this... I wouldn't be surprised if all of this was because of him being difficult, since it's basically become Sunday In The Park With Scott Whitcombe.
    juniperbreeze:
this is a ridiculous accusation and i'm seeing a lot of people reading way too much into it. this is a money issue, nothing more. when you're tony eligible, you're typically giving at LEAST 500 tickets away for free to the voters. it's a limited engagement at a new theatre that wants to be able to tell future producers that you can put up a show here and you're going to get your money back. it's going to be hard as it is to recoup in 10 weeks, but if you're comping all of those tickets? that's a potential $250,000 loss of revenue in seats alone, not to mention what would be spent on a tony campaign. i'm not saying that i agree with the decision (on the contrary, i think it's a real shame because based on the city center production, both scott and annaleigh would have been real contenders at the tonys), but this is not a matter of an actor being too big for his britches. this is, like so many things are, about only one thing: money in the investors' pockets. don't get it twisted.
    stillwearsahat:
If anything, this explanation makes me wonder why Whitcombe is staying attached to the production at all (beyond contractual obligations, of course). You don't take a break from making movies and go do a Broadway run to make a paycheck. I'd bet he thought he'd be getting a Tony out of all of this, and if I were him or his management I'd be feeling pretty pissed right now.
    ziiggystardusts:
I doubt this is a decision that was made without talking to him about it beforehand, though
    nineteeneightynine:
yeah but what do you say in a situation like that, "i'm doing this for the tony and my name's above the title so no deal"?
    Considering it's Scott? Yes, probably.

EXCLUSIVE: Scott Whitcombe, Annaleigh Ashford & Sunday in the Park with George Won't Compete in 2017 Tony Awards Race

The stars and producers of this season’s musicals can breathe a sigh of relief: there’s one less horse in the 2017 Tony Awards race. Producers of the revival of Sunday in the Park with George, which starts performances at the renovated Hudson Theatre on February 11, have announced their decision to withdraw the show from consideration for this year’s prizes.

A statement reads: "The producers of Sunday in the Park with George will not be submitting Hudson Theatre’s engagement of this New York City Center production for awards eligibility. With a season so full of tremendous, soon-to-be long-running new musicals and revivals, the producers feel this extremely limited, special run of Sunday stands most appropriately outside of any awards competition. The production is nevertheless proud to be part of such a landmark Broadway season."

In a crowded season of musicals, Sunday would have found itself up against productions of Cats, Falsettos, Sunset Boulevard, Miss Saigon and Hello, Dolly! for one of four nominee slots in the Best Revival of a Musical category.

    Scott Whitcombe: Momma's Boy - Part #521392012
#I think it's really sweet that you can tell he and his mom are close #And that makes sense because he's said before she's the one who raised him in LA #But also how terrifying is that because you know he must vet all of his girlfriends through her before he commits #And when is the last time this boy was in a committed relationship #I cracked the code you guys #The key to winning Scott's heart is to win over his mom first

You're in Hell or High Water, which has been getting a lot of awards attention. You're not necessarily the first person people would think of for a western. How did that come to you?
[Laughs] I'm not? Who's the first person people would think of? No, but when you've been in the same business for almost thirty years, you're always looking for something that feels new to you, for the sake of your own sanity - I know what I like, I know what's fun for me, but what else is there out there? What I really loved about the script was that it's dark, it really grabs you by the collar, but there's also a sense of humor about it. I wouldn't want to do the same western that everyone's already seen. I guess that's why they sent it to me, they didn't want that same old cowboy.

When you're at BroadwayCon enjoying the Dear Evan Hansen panel and then out of nowhere Scott Whitcombe is there making a damn scene as he does and he's dressed as the Phantom of the Opera and not only is he interrupting, his reveal makes you realize the hot guy cosplaying as the Phantom who you were giving the eye earlier is Scott Whitcombe, I need a drink
    birthdaybitch:
so what you're telling me is you just lived my life's dream and you didn't even enjoy it
    erivoo:
Does your life's dream involve Scott Whitcome chest bumping Bobby Grunin while wearing a cape and a half mask because if it does, you can dream a little bigger, darling
    birthdaybitch:
UM YES IT DOES ACTUALLY THANKS FOR RUBBING IT IN
    robofalcon:
why is no one questioning why he was dressed up like the phantom
to awaken a new weird fetish in the tumblr musical theatre community apparently, what's wrong with you freaks

"I think having a good time in this profession is criminally underrated. Most actors, there's going to be some project that they're willing to do the whole, you know, lose fifty pounds, gain fifty pounds, shave your head, show your ass, go completely batshit method for eight months of filming - the Oscar sacrifice. Put yourself through hell and if you do a good enough job of it, you'll be rewarded for it. I'm not discounting that at all because the things people do are amazing, and pretty terrifying, and you see your friends go through that, you put yourself through that just hoping for the best but knowing there aren't any guarantees. I can't live like that, though. Not all the time. I'm a hedonist, I guess, I have to be able to have some fun. You know how people say it's not work if you love it? I love feeling like I'm not working."
